~ ORIGINAL WORLD WAR ONE ANTIQUE BAYONET AND SHEATH ~
ORIGINAL WORLD WAR ONE ANTIQUE BAYONET AND SHEATH: WWI 1891 Modelo Argentino Bayonet, Stamped G0048, with its Original Sheath, Stamped P2759. Made by the WEYERSBERG KIRSCHBAUM & Co, SOLINGEN, Germany.
Completely Original Condition ~ The bayonet and sheath have not been cleaned, ground, buffed or sharpened in the last 99 years! It is in the same condition it was in when it was stored away after the war.
The bayonet slides in and out of the sheath snugly and still has some grease on it to lubricate the process. The bayonet latch (?) does depress, as you can see in the photos.
The blade, handle and sheath are rust free. The handle has various small numbers stamped on it: R and W inside a circle in photo 3, a P with a starburst on the end and W in a circle on one end and a RA in an oval at the end in photo 4. There is a 24 stamped on handle edge in photo 9. Handle is solid and blade looks to be in nice shape. The actual blade measures about 15 3/4 inches in length. Total length is about 20 1/2 inches.
The bayonet and sheath seem to be in wonderful vintage antique condition. It could be used as a display piece or even as part of a costume for a soldier or pirate, etc.? It would make a welcome gift or addition to your collection. (As this is the genuine article, please supervise and take care in its use!)
WWI reenactors would enjoy adding this to their ensemble as well.
I am not an expert in WWI in items or even well acquainted with militaria, so please feel free to ask questions, and I will try to answer as best as I am able. Please remember that in general, antique items, even gently used ones have minor imperfections. I have tried to photograph the bayonet from every vantage point so you can see what you are purchasing.
This WWI bayonet and sheath would please any collector of antique militaria.
Feel free to ask questions. The bayonet is located in Brookfield, Wisconsin (just west of Milwaukee County.)
I sell from a smoke-free, pet-free home. All sales are final. Payment is due in cash upon pickup.
